Yesterday, I helped deliver a baby. Then, after the mom had held her a bit and the dad cut the cord, I got to carry her over to the radiant warmer, clean her off, do the newborn assessment, and get her footprints. It was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had, and I still can't stop smiling.

Figured I should set one of these up before it got to the point I had so many that the thought of compiling them was terrifying.

Right now it only includes Hetalia fics, but eventually it will be updated to include my Red vs Blue fics as well.

Soooo as of around 11:00 last night, I have a boyfriend. His name is Joey :3 We went to an event that happens once a month called First Friday that has art galleries (including some from art students at the university, so we got to see some works by friends), music, food, and other awesome things. I HAD SO MUCH FUN.

Happiness is me~

My midterm was today. I got an 87, so I'm really freaking happy, but I was really up in the air about how I did when I first got out of the exam. The thing about the tests I've had so far, is that all the questions are multiple choice--- but all the answers are correct. The issue is finding the one that's the "most" correct or most specific to the scenario. It's pretty nerve-wracking.

I've had two clinicals thus far. I can't really talk about them because of HIPAA, but I can say that they've had a huge impact on me and drove home how badly I want to be a nurse. Interacting with those patients and being in a position to help them affected me on so many levels. My clinicals are 6:45am - 2:00pm, and when the shift's over, it feels like barely an hour has gone by. Right now I'm doing patient vitals, patient assessments, patient baths, bathroom assists, and wound care. By next Thursday, I'll be administering medications (under the extremely attentive eyes of my instructors).

The course load is really heavy so far... Last weekend I woke up at 7am Saturday and Sunday, and read until 7pm and still didn't finish the weekend's readings, let alone be able to have another look through to make sure I retained it all. The main book we have? It's so huge I literally couldn't pick it up. It was as tall as my hand, so I had to slide it off table tops and onto my palms. I ended up having it unbound and hole-punched to keep in binders. And then there's skills checks in lab, which are so far what I have the most trouble with. I do great in clinicals, but something about having my instructors standing over my shoulder with a grade sheet makes my mind blank. I've done good on them, but I always hesitate and second guess myself beforehand.

You know that feeling where you wear a ring for a long time, and then it feels weird when you take it off? That's how I feel when my stethoscope isn't around my neck lol.

I really like my classmates! We've become really close these past four weeks, and I love my clinical group (we break up into groups of eight per shift).

Quote of the semester so far, from my instructor: "Oh, and before I forget, when you get your badges, use a clip, not a lanyard, because if you use a lanyard, you may get a patient who will try to choke you."

That was said to us within the first 20 min of the first day. I wish I had a snapshot of everyone's facial expressions afterwards...

I hope you guys are doing well! I haven't had a chance to write much, but I'll get the opportunity this week because the midterm's done and we don't have a clinical...

My first day of nursing school is tomorrow. I've still got that mix of excitement and disbelief banging around my brain. On the one hand, I want it to be Monday already. On the other, I'm nervous as hell. I was shifting between the two, but then I made cookies, sat down, read for a while (oh, Good Omens, you will never stop being amazing), and came back thinking "Bring it."

I got my textbooks :D And that was... an experience lol. I got the books for all but one of my classes (my dad went with me, and between the two of us, we could barely carry them), and then I started looking for the book for the last class... But all that was under the label were these stacks of cardboard boxes. I figured they must not have unloaded them yet, so I asked an employee. Nope. It was a set. I needed the entire box @____@

I've gotten quite a few emails from teachers already too, and they all sound really sweet. Plus, hey, communication, which is a nice change of pace. In non-school news, sorry I've been away for so long... The dial-up's still really sketch, but once I'm back in school, I'll have more regular wifi access and should be able to get back to replies/updating. As it is, I had to type all this in Word and copy/paste before it kicked me off.

Fic-wise, I'm working on the update for Intentions and Subversions, and I've also got an unnamed Prussia/England/France fic that's about two-thirds done. I'm hoping to have both posted within the next couple of weeks.
